Mark Perry's Carpe Diem, had another excellent insight about the competitiveness of manufacturing industries in the United States. Manufacturing in the United States has more than doubled in the last thirty years as measure by output. What has decreased is manufacturing manpower, by almost a third.
This has been due to increases in productivity; chiefly automation and computerization.
As someone who works in a manufacturing industry, it is nice to see what I am not actually on the wrong side of history.
